Working with a key development partner Ugot was introduced to this project over 2 years ago at the final planning stages. The client was embarking on a major building project which was to become a large and stately family home. Initially the brief was to install and small multi room AV solution but through discussion with the clients this quickly grew with the addition of lighting control and home cinema and then control of other systems such as the blinds and water features, then on to telephones and data networks.
With such a large project there was a great deal of planning to do and there were many meetings with all of the main contractors to ensure that the client's needs were being met in the best way.
Multi room AV
For the multi room system Ugot chose Opus 500 as it met all of the client's criteria and represents good value for money. In each main zone Ugot installed an Opus WCU600 touch screen with any sub-zones enjoying the WCU330. Where possible Ugot used Opus ceiling speakers including in the stretched ceiling in the pool area, which worked remarkably well due to the close collaboration with the ceiling specialists. Where ceiling speakers could not be installed, Boston Acoustics pod speakers, which gives a great sound were specified.
When Ugot started the project there was two choices; Lutron or Rako. Rako was just launching its cabled solution which represented excellent value with a feature rich system. The main lighting circuits are controlled by RAV4 and RAV4F lighting dimmers. The Rako lighting interfaces with the Opus multi room system through a serial interface. The client had specific requirements for the look and feel of the light switches which we had specially made. The lamps, downlighters and other lights in the main rooms are all controlled with Rako.
The client asked Ugot to install and control the blinds in the master bedroom which was achieved with Somfy motors and RAKO RACUB controllers, again interfaced with Opus touchscreen and Rako keypads. Furthermore Ugot integrated colour change lighting in the pool area and the pool lighting itself as well as the two main water features, one by the main house and the other in the lake.
This is the client's favourite room in the entire property. The screen is a 2.4m Draper Onyx Hidef screen. The projector is an Epson, with sound from Mordaunt-Short speakers driven by a Marantz AV receiver. Sky HD is delivered from the comms room (located and connected to the Opus multi room), via DHMI over CAT5. The client's PS3 is integrated and is connected to the internet for on-line gaming via the wireless network.
